

POSITION: Associate Pastor – Youth and Community Engagement
This role will plan, administer, and assess ministry that nurtures and equips people in the Body of Christ for spiritual maturity, service, and witness in the home, job, congregation, community, and the world.
Through teaching, worship, word, and examples, the coordinator guides in Christian faith and life. This position supports the spiritual formation of children and youth to ensure consistency, continuity, and relationships.
This individual must be able to work in full cooperation and collaboration with the Senior Pastor and Staff. Willingness and ability to coordinate and communicate are essential.

The person in this position will be capable of teaching with patience, energy, and authority, have highly developed organizational skills, possess creative qualities associated with the ability to educate, and be an open communicator.
This role will handle the logistics of worship and education, including working with the Senior Pastor and Staff to ensure that supplies and volunteers are in place for all education programs and worship services.

The well-qualified candidate will be a mature Christian able to articulate their faith clearly and have a good grasp of scripture. They will rely on the Bible as the complete Word of God and trust the authority of it. This person will not fall prey to, nor engage in, false teachings concerning Christ’s divinity, virgin birth, resurrection, or any other Biblical truths.
Purpose: To plan, coordinate and implement discipleship ministry and activities at Friendship Methodist Church. The overall ministry must include a balance of teaching, worship, missions, and pastoral care, with the involvement of the congregation, staff, laity and clergy.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Be a passionate Disciple of Christ.

Develop a Youth Discipleship Council in coordination with the Pastor and Children’s Discipleship Coordinator.

Create a personal discipleship plan for each youth and the youth group as a whole.

Coordinate with the pastor, the Youth Discipleship Council, and other staff and volunteers of the church for ministry planning.

Work with the Children’s Discipleship Coordinator.

Provide leadership and oversight of volunteers.

Adhere to and ensure compliance with Ministry Safe policies of the Church including volunteers.

Ensure adequate supervision at all events.

Organize and manage special events such as: retreats, mission trips, community service opportunities. It is expected that the youth will have at least one, week long event (at least 3 days) each summer.

Create an annual Bible study plan for youth. This includes acquiring materials and volunteers as necessary.

In consultation with the pastor and Youth Discipleship Council, establish short and long term goals and budget requests.

Make weekly contact or visits with youth and their families via phone, text, social media, as well as home and school visits. Utilize appropriate contact methods tailored to the individual needs of the youth and their families. Maintain a log of contacts.

Report monthly to the Pastor, Youth Discipleship Council, and the Church Council, in person or via written statement.

Participate in worship (both worship services) whenever possible.

Perform other tasks as assigned by the Pastor and the SPRC.

Maintain a log of hours worked and major activities performed.

Passion for sharing Jesus Christ, forming Disciples of Jesus.

Firm commitment to Christian faith, integrity, and Church membership.

Excellent communication and relationship building skills. Skills will be applied when interacting with children, youth, adults, and church staff.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of statements made to him/her as privileged communications.

Excellent organizational. Communication, teaching, administration, and computer skills.

Supportive of the Global Methodist Church’s doctrine in all areas of faith and practice.

Be willing to assist with Pastoral duties of the Church.
